We are saddened to announce the passing of Jake Barton, President of the Saint Helen Snowpackers Club.  Jake will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and we are better for having had him in our lives.

BORN: December 4, 1952
DIED: February 14, 2012

BARTON, Jacob W. "Dream Weaver" – of St. Helen, formerly Clio, age 59, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at McLaren Flint. Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, February 17, 2012 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Vicar Ben Schrank officiating. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-9PM. Contributions may be made to the family for a snow rescue vehicle in St. Helen.

Jacob was born December 4, 1952 in Flint to the late Jacob and Olivine (Fitzgerald) Barton. He was a resident of Clio most of his life moving to St. Helen in 2009. He married Connie Wefel on July 1, 2000 in Henderson. Jacob served in the US Army from October 1971 to August 1981. He retired in 2006 from ACC-GM with 10 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local #659 and served as Trustee. He was also Trustee of Thetford Twp., President of the St. Helen Snow Packers and Chaplain of the Shiawassee HOG Chapter. He had recently completed training to be a police officer for the St. Helen Police Dept. He was a member of the NRA, St. Helen American Legion and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.

Surviving are: wife, Connie; 3 children, Jason Barton of Clio, Dustin Wefel of Swartz Creek, Aaron Wefel of Clio; 2 grandchildren, Jakob and Lane; sisters, Ann Barton, Lori (Robert) Pacheco both of Clio; brother, Robert Barton of FL; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

2010 MSA CLUB OF THE YEAR


The St Helen Snowpackers Snowmobile Club is located just north of I-75 from Exit 222 on North St. Helen Road.  The Snowpackers is a DNR Trail Grant club headquartered in St Helen and is actively involved with the community.  Snowpacker's members maintain and groom approximately 56 miles of trails in Roscommon County and are active participants in the Heart of the North Snowmobile Council.

St. Helen Snowpackers meet with the general membership twice a month at the Club House. Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM, and the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM.  Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend.
